Working in the adult industry is frustrating.  Negative religious and social programming has done a good job making people feel like there’s something immoral with our natural desires, even though human sexuality is one of the most natural and healthiest of human expressions.  Because of this, the webcam job market gets a bad rep.

Most people — meaning people who are unable to think outside the box — are quick to make judgments about cam models and the work we do.  Righteous anti-sex industry feminists and so called “moral” people seem to have nothing better to judge others.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at some common misconceptions of the webcam modeling industry.

#1 – Webcam modeling isn’t a real job

This is one of my biggest pet peeves simply because webcam performers work hard for the money they make.  They submit the required legal documents, put in the required hours, and provide clients with an unmatched level of customer service.  Bottom line, webcam modeling is a 100% legit work-from-home business that is thriving despite the global recession.

#2 – Webcam modeling is degrading or immoral

Degrading to whom?  Immoral to who’s standards?  Webcam models are very aware of the work involved before they sign up.  Nobody forces them to do anything they’re not comfortable with.  In fact, many of them describe their work as “empowering.” They love the freedom and independence that come along with the bi-weekly payouts.  Webcam models have no moral objections to the work they do, nor do the millions of satisfied customers who pay to watch them perform.

#3 – You don’t develop any skills

Wrong!  The skills you learn from webcam modeling can easily be transferred over into the business world.  Unlike typical jobs where you punch in and do the least amount of work possible, cam models learn to be their own boss.  They quickly discover that their monthly earnings are directly correlated to how much effort they put in to it.  Some cam models are only interested in camming part-time to save money or pay off bills, whereas top performers will go on to make 6-figure salaries.  No question about it, camming is a skill, and just like any skill, the more you practice, the better you become.
